We're Making Momentum #HalifaxRise
We have faced challenges that tested our resilience, from the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic to the ongoing demands of academic recovery. Yet through it all, our students, staff, and community have shown remarkable determination. We invite you to take a look at our momentum—how we are not just recovering, but growing stronger, learning faster, and rising higher together. Every achievement, big or small, reflects our commitment to continuous growth and a brighter future for all learners.

Student Growth
This year, 10 out of 11 schools met or exceeded their growth goals.
A remarkable turnaround that reflects the dedication of our teachers, the commitment of our students, and the unwavering support of our families and community.

Student Proficiency
District-wide student proficiency rose from 28.5% to 31.3%, demonstrating steady improvement in student learning.
More and more of our students are reaching grade-level proficiency, demonstrating not only academic growth but also true mastery of the skills they need to succeed. Every percentage point gained represents more than data—it represents a child who can now read with confidence, solve complex problems, and envision a future filled with opportunity.

Student Success
With a graduation rate of 87.5%, more students are achieving their dreams and preparing for bright futures.
More of our students are walking across the stage with diplomas in hand—ready for college, careers, and life beyond high school. Today, Halifax County Schools celebrates not only higher graduation numbers, but the futures those numbers represent. Our students are proving that with resilience, support, and determination, they can achieve success at the highest level—and we will continue working until every child has the chance to graduate prepared for what comes next.
Understanding School Performance Grades and Halifax County Schools’ Designation
In 2013, the North Carolina General Assembly passed legislation (G.S. §115C-83.15) that introduced School Performance Grades as an additional way for parents and the public to understand how schools are performing. Starting with the 2013–14 school year, each public school in North Carolina has received an annual letter grade—A, B, C, D, or F—published in the North Carolina School Report Cards.
These grades are calculated based on two key components:
-
80% of the grade is based on student achievement (proficiency on end-of-grade and end-of-course tests)
-
20% is based on student academic growth (the progress students make over the course of the school year)
