Step 1: Gather Required Documents
To complete your child’s enrollment in Halifax County Schools, you will need to provide several important documents. Having these ready will help ensure a smooth and timely enrollment process.

Athletics
Halifax County Schools is proud to offer a well-rounded athletics program that promotes teamwork, discipline, leadership, and school pride across our two middle schools and two high schools. We believe that athletics are a powerful extension of the classroom—developing not just physical skill, but character, confidence, and community spirit.
Our student-athletes compete in a variety of sports including football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, baseball, and more.
Advanced Learning & Gifted Education
Halifax County Schools’ Advanced Learning and Gifted Program is designed to meet the unique academic and intellectual needs of high-achieving and gifted students. Through differentiated instruction, enrichment opportunities, and accelerated coursework, the program nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Our goal is to challenge students at their individual levels while fostering a love for learning and preparing them for future academic success.
Career & Technical Education
Halifax County Schools' Career and Technical Education (CTE) program prepares students for success in college, careers, and life. CTE combines rigorous academic content with hands-on learning and real-world experiences across high-demand career fields.
Through CTE, students explore their interests, build essential skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and gain a competitive edge for the workforce or postsecondary education.
Driver's Education
We are happy to offer the driver’s education program to help students learn basic traffic laws and practice safe driving principles. The goal of the driver’s education program is to provide student drivers with the psychomotor skills and mental attitudes essential to becoming the most competent, skillful, and responsible drivers possible.
Dual Enrollment
The Halifax County Schools Dual Enrollment Program allows eligible high school students to take college-level courses through partnerships with local colleges. Students earn both high school and college credit simultaneously, gaining a head start on their postsecondary education while experiencing the rigor of college coursework.
Pre-Kindergarten
HCS Pre-K Program
Halifax County Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Program is an early learning school readiness program. Pre-K students receive the benefit of in-person instruction to the fullest extent possible.
HCS is in partnership with the NC Pre-K Smart Start Program and Title I Federal Program to provide qualifying students five-star early learning experiences. The NC Pre-K Program Requirements are designed for eligible four-year-old children. The Title I Federal Program allows three-year-olds with an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)to attend the early learning program as well. The HCS Pre-K Program meets the NC Child Care Rules.
Green Leaf Farm
Greenleaf Farm is Halifax County Schools’ outdoor learning lab where students gain hands-on experience beyond the classroom. Originally serving horticulture and agricultural science programs, it now supports business, marketing, and culinary arts students as they explore entrepreneurship, food production, and farm-to-table practices. As the first school district farm in North Carolina to earn GAP Harmonious Certification, Greenleaf produce is safely served in all district cafeterias and shared with local vendors—giving students a true taste of real-world learning.
Junior Contractors
The Junior Contractor Program provides students with immersive, hands-on experiences that introduce them to careers in construction, architecture, engineering, and related STEM fields. Designed to inspire the next generation of builders, designers, and problem-solvers, the program connects classroom learning with real-world applications.
Participants gain a deeper understanding of how math, science, and technology shape the built environment while developing valuable skills in teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. By engaging students early, the program helps them explore future career pathways and prepares them to become innovative leaders in the skilled trades and STEM industries.
Proof of Residency
To prove residency, please bring two of the following documents:
- Property tax statement with your home address
- Mortgage papers or deed with your home address
- Lease or rental agreement with your home address
- Utility bill (electric, gas, water, or cable) showing your address
- Driver’s license with your current address
- Voter registration card with your address
- Vehicle registration with your current address
Proof of Age & Identity
To prove age and identity, please bring one certified birth certificate OR one of the following if a birth certificate is not available:
- Hospital, physician, or midwife certificate
- Religious Record, such as:
- Baptismal or church certificate
- Entry in a family Bible or family record
- Parent’s affidavit
- Statement from an emancipated youth
- School record
- Immigration or naturalization document
- Life insurance policy
- Passport
- Census record (preferably recorded before age 5)

Records Requests
The Halifax County Schools is now offering a secure site for current students, former students, third parties and K12s to access transcripts, attendance, and employment verifications and other student records.
Per District policy and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) student records are only available to those who have authorization from the student or parent, guardian or responsible person if the student is less than 18 years of age. If the student is 18 years of age or older, school records will not be released to a parent, guardian, or responsible person without the student’s written consent.
Please allow 7-10 business days to process student record orders.
