About CTE
Halifax County Schools' Career and Technical Education (CTE) program prepares students for success in college, careers, and life. CTE combines rigorous academic content with hands-on learning and real-world experiences across high-demand career fields.
Through CTE, students explore their interests, build essential skills, earn industry-recognized credentials, and gain a competitive edge for the workforce or postsecondary education.
During the last school year, students earned 279 industry-recognized credentials, showcasing their skills and readiness for the workforce, which contributed to enhanced employability.
Work Based Learning
The Earn While You Learn program is Halifax County Schools’ premier work-based learning initiative, giving high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on job experience while still in school. Students earn real wages as they work with local businesses, industries, and community partners in fields such education, information technology and public service.

Green Leaf Farm
The farm provides hands-on experiences in sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and agribusiness, helping students connect classroom learning to real-world skills. Students actively participate in planting, harvesting, and maintaining crops, while also exploring key concepts in science, environmental stewardship, and healthy living. Through this living classroom, students develop responsibility, teamwork, and an appreciation for the role of agriculture in local and global communities. Sustainable Agricultural Processes | Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy
Our Sustainable Agriculture program teaches students how science and technology are used to grow, process, and deliver the food we eat in ways that are safe, nutritious, and environmentally responsible. Students explore how fruits, vegetables, grains, and meats are prepared and preserved, learning about quality control, food safety, and how to meet the high standards expected by both consumers and government agencies. This hands-on program helps students understand the entire journey of food from farm to table and prepares them for meaningful careers that support healthy communities and a sustainable future.

The Health Sciences pathway introduces students to a wide range of careers focused on keeping people healthy and improving their quality of life. Students explore how healthcare professionals care for patients at every stage of life. Students learn about roles in areas like medical treatment, diagnostic testing, therapy and rehabilitation, pharmacy, nutrition, and dental care. HVAC-R | Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) pathway prepares students for careers that keep our indoor environments comfortable, healthy, and safe. Students learn how to install, maintain, and repair heating and cooling systems, as well as refrigeration units found in homes, businesses, and industrial settings. Coursework combines technical training with hands-on experience, focusing on system design, troubleshooting, energy efficiency, and safety.

No military commitment is required, and participation opens doors to scholarships, career opportunities, and leadership roles both in and beyond high school. |
Horticulture | Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy
Students explore the science and art of growing plants from flowers and trees to fruits and vegetables. Students learn how to care for soil, manage pests naturally, and use sustainable practices to grow healthy crops. This pathway opens doors to careers in plant science, landscaping, greenhouse and nursery management, soil conservation, and more. Students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for future opportunities in agriculture, environmental science, and sustainable food production.
Middle School CTE
Our Middle School Career & Technical Education (CTE) program gives students the opportunity to discover their interests, develop real-world skills, and explore possible career paths. Through hands-on projects and engaging lessons, students learn valuable skills like teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and creativity. CTE helps students connect what they learn in the classroom to real-life experiences. It’s a fun and exciting way to prepare for future success in high school, college, and beyond!
