Dear Parents/ Guardians:

Welcome to 2017-2018 school year! My name is Vanetta Flynn, your child’s fourth-grade teacher. I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer. I am looking forward to building a collaborative relationship with you in order to have an exciting and productive school year. Our new motto at Everetts Elementary STEM Academy is “The Future Starts Here”. This is where we motivate, inspire students and also impart lessons that will last a lifetime.

I firmly believe that good communication between the home and school is vital to promote a healthy relationship between all of us. Please feel free to contact the school at (252)537-5484 and leave a message for me. I will return your call at the earliest convenience. It’s also very important for you to be a part of our school’s Parent Teachers Association. In this way, you will be more involved in the school’s decision making process while improving your child’s educational experience at Everetts Elementary.

Homework is an integral part of the school’s curriculum. It serves as an important link between home and school, to keep families informed about the students learning, as well as reinforcing and extending what has been taught in class. Homework will be written in their agenda each day.  Students are also expected to read for at least 30 minutes each day which helps in building stamina, fluency and also comprehension skills.

My goal is to help all my students aspire to be an agent of change in society, and also to do their best always. My mission at Everetts STEM Academy is to touch the heart of each child that enters my classroom while instilling lifelong learning.

I strive to help each student reach their highest learning potential by differentiating instruction to meet each individual’s needs. I will also encourage them to work both independently and collaboratively. As independent learners, my students will work to improve their own personal goals. My classroom will be one of mutual respect in which kindness will be shown to all. I look forward to a year full of fun and learning with you and your child. I also look forward to talking with you at Open House on Friday, August 25 at 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Thank You
