Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Evelena Drayton
Hello! My name is Evelena Drayton. I am the middle child of six siblings and the mother of two beautiful young individuals. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Elizabeth City State University, completed an add-on Licensure in the area of K-12 Specific Learning Disabilities, and received my Master’s of Education from Walden University in the winter of 2010.As a member of Pittman Elementary school staff, I hold many positions, including: IEP Chairperson, Student Assistance Team member, School Improvement Team member, and Positive Behavior Intervention Support team member, along with numerous other collaborative opportunities that are available throughout the school year.
My current role as an educator of students with special needs is extremely important in that, I am responsible for differentiating instructional strategies to address the various needs of the learner; therefore creating a tension free and safe environment that allows students to take risk and learn from their educational experiences. Participation in the district’s educational transformation plan, enables me to share my perspective in meeting the needs of all students; especially those with special needs by assisting other educators providing students with a variety of ways in which to master the set standards and also accommodate the students’ unique learning styles by differentiating their daily instructional strategies. I realize that constant collaboration increases the probability of creating educational environments that are conducive to learning.
