Mrs. Tonya Hedgepeth
My name is Tonya Moore Hedgepeth. I am married, have two daughters, and the oldest of four children. During my downtime, I enjoy watching TV, reading, and spending time with family and friends. My mental therapy is shopping, cooking, and decorating.
I have recently completed my Master’s degree in Administrative Leadership in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University. I graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Elementary Education/News Media. I have dedicated my entire career to Halifax County and Pittman Elementary School for 23 years. I have taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta. I have served in many leadership roles; however the most rewarding was being name Halifax County’s Teacher of Year 2015-2016. I was named Pittman’s Teacher of the Year numerous times. I served as a Google Hangout Facilitator for District’s 5th-grade teachers of three Elementary Schools (2014-2015), After-School Tutorial Coordinator (2013-2015), Summer Remediation Coordinator (2013-2015), School Improvement Team Chairperson (2011-2015), Peer Observer (2012- present), Mentor Teacher (2005- present), Mobymax Intervention Facilitator (2013), Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Math Consultant (2012- present) and other duties as required.
I believe in our school motto, where all children can learn. If students are inspired and have the desire, they will learn.
“The best teacher kindles the fire of knowledge with appreciation and love of students whose hearts so eagerly desire to learn.”
