Dear Parents:

Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back!

I welcome you to Everetts Elementary STEM Academy, and I welcome you to the fifth grade!

My name is Katrina Smith, and I am excited, elated, and enthusiastic about being your child’s Mathematics, Science and Social Studies teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.  It is my strong belief that every child can and will learn in a positive and nurturing school environment.  With you as the loving parent, and I as the dedicated teacher, every child assigned to me will leave elementary school with the tools necessary to complete middle and high school.

My goals for the 2017-2018 school year are as follows:

  1. To ensure that my students are exposed to real life applications of mathematics, science, and social studies,
  2. To engage students in using critical thinking skills at all times,
  3. To motivate students to use positive behavior at all times, and
  4. To encourage students to desire to achieve proficiency in Math, Science, and Social Studies.

We need your help.  This year, Everetts Elementary STEM Academy is recruiting willing and dedicated parents to join the PTA.  We are hoping that you will come aboard to make our school a warm, positive environment for our children.  For more information, please see the principal, Ms. Jorgette Mullins, or our Data Manager/Bookkeeper, Ms. Cynthia Wiggs.

Last, I encourage you to visit my web page often.  I am heavily reliant on technology for communication to parents. When you go to Halifax County Schools’ website, click on Everetts STEM Academy, and click on Teachers until you find my name.  I will post updates pertaining to the fifth grade.  Also, I will use an application called Remind to post important information weekly.  Remind can be downloaded on Google Play Store (Android users) or the App Store (iPhone users).  I will send you the sign on information on the first day of school.

Happy Learning!

Katrina A. Smith, B.S., M.Ed.
