    Scott

I attended NC A&T State University (undergrad) and Teachers College, Columbia University (grad).

An engaging instructional strategy I plan on using this year are storyboards. As an ELA teacher I believe this strategy is an exciting and engaging way to get the students involved in understanding concepts of story elements, plot, etc.

What I love most about my content is that I am able to teach something I have a fondness for.  As my students learn different strategies to help them to become proficient readers, I also encourage them to develop a zest for reading.

My favorite scientist is George Washington Carver.  Carver has contributed many innovations to our society that we still benefit from today.  His discoveries have helped to enhance our lives.  I also admire the fact that although met with many adversities throughout his life he preserved and succeeded.

In the society we live in today, it is expected that technology be incorporated into the classroom. In order for students to succeed in the society we live in today their exposure to technology (laptop, ipads) is expected and enforced.

I am thankful for the technological advancements of the smart board and the many websites that can be used for the pedagogical profession.  Lesson planning and student engagement are made more efficient and fun.

I use technology to enhance my instruction by utilizing the many teacher based webpages that focus on rigorous lesson and fun activities to enhance my instruction.  I enjoy smart board exchange due to the vast bank of helpful resources that also focus on student engagement.

To tap into the curiosity of students to create I will help them to gain the collaboration and communication skills they need to bring their science, technology, engineering, and math skills to fruition in the marketplace of the 21st century.

Math is important in everyday life because it is used in daily task.  For example, cooking, grocery shopping, etc all require some type of math.  Simply looking at a cook to determine the time requires the use of math.  Thus it is essential to learn different math strategies.

For students who are afraid of math I would remind them that math is all around us. Create an awareness that math is something that should not be feared but something that is needed to live.
