Dr. Eric Cunningham, affectionately known as Dr. “C,” has served as Superintendent of Halifax County Schools for the past nine years, leading with vision, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to student success. His leadership is defined by a deep belief in the transformative power of education and the potential of every young person.

When Dr. Cunningham first toured Halifax County, a bus ride through local communities revealed the depth of student and family challenges—an experience that became a personal mission. 

Since then, he has guided the district through a powerful transformation. In his tenure as Superintendent, Dr. Cunningham has achieved numerous milestones, including overseeing significant facility upgrades, ensuring that schools are modern, safe, and conducive to learning. He has also led efforts to drive rising academic achievement through targeted interventions, personalized learning initiatives, and a commitment to professional development for teachers, all of which have resulted in improved graduation rates and student performance.

Dr. Cunningham’s leadership has also emphasized fiscal responsibility, ensuring that the district operates within budget while continuing to improve educational outcomes.
