Hyke to attend N.C. Justice Center’s Together NC Policy Academy
Geron Hyke, the second-year 7th Grade Social Studies teacher at William R. Davie Middle STEM Academy, has been invited to attend the North Carolina Justice Center’s Together NC Policy Academy.
This two day workshop brings together community leaders from across the state to engage in discussion on upcoming policy campaigns, tools on how to move policies forward, and how to share work in respective communities. It will be held from February 7-8 and attendees are invited to join the NCJC for the Moral March on Feb. 9.
A Warren County Schools alumnus, Hyke comes to Davie by way of Southeast Halifax Collegiate Prep Academy, where he taught World History and Civics and Economics in 2017-18. Prior to that, he was a Criminal Justice and Critical Thinking instructor at Chowan University for six years, advising several student organizations during his tenure, including the school’s chapter of the NAACP and its Black fraternities and sororities.
Hyke’s background prior to education includes stints in corrections and law enforcement. He served as a corrections officer for five years in Virginia and North Carolina and worked as a probation officer for six years in Wake County, NC. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in secondary education.
Hyke was the assistant head coach for Davie’s football team this past season.
