Congratulations Mr. Rodney Pierce 2019-2020 Davie Teacher of the Year

       Rodney D. Pierce, 8th Grade Social Studies and Civics and Economics teacher at William R. Davie Middle STEM Academy, was recently named the school’s Teacher of the Year.

       The Content Area Lead for Social Studies at Davie, Pierce earned an Associate in Applied Science degree in Paralegal Technology from Halifax Community College before graduating summa cum laude from North Carolina Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. During his undergraduate tenure at NCWC, he was initiated into Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

      A Halifax County Schools alumnus, Pierce taught 6th Grade Social Studies from 2015-18. He was named one of the district’s two Most Outstanding Beginning Teachers in 2018.

      This year, Pierce has served as a panelist for a Carolina K-12 event on a viewing of the documentary ‘An Unlikely Friendship’ – the inspiration for the 2019 film ‘Best of Enemies’ – and for a discussion on education equity in the state sponsored by the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education’s Graduate Student Association. He also worked on the NC School of Science and Math’s Selection Committee for the Class of 2021, completed the Public School Forum of NC’s Education Policy Fellowship Program, and was named the NC Council for the Social Studies Teacher of the Year.
