Halifax County Schools is proud to have hosted the highly anticipated Halifax County Christmas Basketball Tournament at Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy. With participants from across the area, the tournament offered a two-day exciting opportunity bringing together athletes, families, and the local community for an unforgettable holiday event.
This event highlighted not only the exceptional talent of student-athletes but also the district’s commitment to creating outstanding opportunities for students through strategic investments in school infrastructure. The newly renovated gym, upgraded with ESSER funds, provided a state-of-the-art venue with upgraded bleachers, professional-grade rims, and goals, providing an enhanced experience for both players and spectators.
These significant improvements to the gym have transformed it into a modern facility that not only supports athletic excellence but also serves as a symbol of the district’s investment in its students’ success.
“The renovations have transformed this space into something truly special for our students and our community,” stated Claude Cooper, Vice Chair of the Halifax County Board of Education. “The work on the gyms at Southeast and at Northwest continues our quest to create a supportive and positive learning environment for students, parents and the community, as stated in our mission statement.”
Dontrell Powell, Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy Athletic Director, stated, “The tournament set a high bar for future competitions, leaving everyone excited about the next chapter in Halifax County’s basketball traditions. Next year the Halifax County Christmas Basketball Tournament will be hosted by Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy.”
Congratulations to the Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy Varsity team who placed second. Daveion Richardson and Javon Kee were awarded with the All-Tournament Team. They were recognized as two of the best performers in the tournament. These awards are typically given to players who demonstrate outstanding skills, leadership, sportsmanship, and contributions to their team during the tournament games.
