HCS Announces New Principal for PELA
The Halifax County School Board of Education approved the promotion of Mrs. Carolyn Mitchell to the position of Principal of Pittman Elementary Leadership Academy on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. Mrs. Mitchell has proudly served Halifax County Schools as an English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, Instructional Coach, and Assistant Principal for the past 18 years. Currently, Mrs. Mitchell serves as Assistant Principal at Enfield Middle S.T.E.A.M. Academy.
Mrs. Mitchell earned her Associate degree in Business Administration from Roanoke Chowan Community College, and Bachelors of Arts in Business Management from Bluefield College. She has earned Masters of Arts in Instruction from Central Michigan University and Masters of Arts in School Administration from North Carolina State University. She has also obtained certification in Academically and Intellectually Gifted from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. When Mrs. Mitchell is not serving Halifax County students and teachers, she enjoys reading, traveling, exercising, working church ministries, serving the community through her membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, and spending time with her family. She is the wife of Thornton Mitchell, Sr. and mother of two adult sons (Thornton, Jr. and Danzel).
“Mrs. Mitchell has been dedicated to serving Halifax County Schools students with a ‘Servant Leadership’ mantra which is a perfect fit as we continue to Chart a New course to Student Achievement at Pittman Elementary Leadership Academy.” stated Dr. Eric L. Cunningham, Superintendent of Halifax County Schools.
The school division will be hosting a “Meet the Principal” event at Pittman Elementary Leadership Academy on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 4 pm at the school. All community stakeholders are invited to meet Mrs. Mitchell.
