The HCS Empowerment Zone empowers students to become informed and engaged citizens by teaching about the voting process and aligning activities with the Empowerment Zone's Vision Statement. The Vision: Halifax County Schools Empowerment Zone students will be active and productive citizens in the global community. On September 4 and 5, 2024, our eligible students could learn and participate in the voter registration process.

The Halifax County Schools Empowerment Zone's Senior Mock Interviews occurred on Friday, March 28th, in partnership with the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce and other local agencies. The purpose of this event was to prepare our students for life after graduation and to become productive global citizens. In doing so, each student received immediate feedback on their interview for their area of strengths and improvement. We are very proud of those students who participated in this event with their prepared resumes, professional dress, and soft skills. Thanks to Mrs. Ida Nicholson-Pope and Ms. Sharon Arrington for preparing the Empowerment Zone students for this event.
The Halifax County Schools Empowerment Zone hosted a CPR training facilitated by Nurse Teresa Boyd. All participants completed their training after demonstrating what they had been taught during the session. A special thanks to Nurse Boyd for facilitating such engaging training. Congratulations to all participants.
