Message from the Principal

  • mjones Dear Parents and Families of Aurelian Springs Elementary School!

It's time for school.  I want to welcome our new returning students to Aurelian Springs Elementary School.  It's a new beginning, a fresh start, and chance to enjoy the challenges of learning and growing together.  At Aurelian Springs, we value and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for our students.  The learning that takes place by our students each day represents building blocks that ensure future successes.  We take this responsibility very seriously and want to know that we are committed to the success of every child.

We would like to invite you at this time to take full advantage of the support and involvement you can offer to make the year even better for your child.  Please meet with the teacher on a regular basis, participate in school functions, and become an active member of the PTA.

Thank you in advance for all your help and support.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of further assistance in the education of your child.

Have a wonderful school year, Hornets Family!

    Sincerely yours,

    Marcus I. Jones, Principal

District Announcements

  • Message from the Office of Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Cunningham

Approximately thirteen years ago, one hundred and five students started a journey that would end with the familiar culminating experience, high school graduation. On Wednesday, May 22nd, a beautiful commencement ceremony for Northwest Halifax Collegiate and Tech Academy was filled with musical talent and special awards for graduates who demonstrated academic prowess. Students with substantive grade point averages earned high-ranking positions such as valedictorian and salutatorian; such accolades belong to the recipients forever.

Graduation should be cherished as an event wherein individuals respect the journey endured by our scholars. It should be immune from destructive behaviors that will bring about marks of embarrassment in the minds of our youth.

Mothers, Fathers, Grandparents and young children should be able to celebrate together without worrying about violence brought into the camp by unruly individuals. Instead of the joy that should accompany such a wonderful occasion, for the rest of their lives, these graduates will associate the ONLY high school graduation they will ever have, with the events that took place on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

The ceremony was beautiful and the message delivered was meant to inspire scholars to make wise decisions about the future, a future existing slightly beyond the exit doors of the venue. It is unfortunate that altercations erupted by people in attendance at the ceremony interrupted this special occasion and turned it into a mockery that was shameful to our families and community.

We will rise above this ordeal and continue our quest to chart a new course. Halifax County Schools responded to the threat to ensure the safety of our students, staff and community. I would like to thank our first responders, the parents and staff who assisted in restoring order. Our collective efforts demonstrated that we are not going to tolerate this type of disrespect anymore. Thank you for not losing faith in Halifax County Schools. #HalifaxRise

  • Good evening. This is Chatesha Dickens, Public Information Officer for Halifax County Schools, with an important message. Today was a great day! Congratulations to the 2019 Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy graduates. Today, there were 105 graduates who will be either entering the workforce, military, or college resulting in over seven hundred thousand dollars in scholarships. Superintendent Dr. Eric Cunningham is very proud of our graduates' accomplishments. Unfortunately, members of our community engaged in an altercation that impacted the closing march for our graduates. Halifax County Schools Resources officers and officials responded immediately to ensure the safety of the attendees. Safety is our #1 priority. The district will go to great measures to ensure the safety of all students. As always, thank you for listening, have a good night, again, Congratulations to the 2019 graduates of Halifax County Schools.
