• ELA Class Overview

As we are experiencing a “new normal”, we will still require scholars to focus and forge forward during English this year.  This year, you can expect your scholar to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts including: novels, short stories, dramas, poetry, and essays. Writing, vocabulary and supplemental grammar assignments, (as needed), will also be an important part of this class.

Throughout the duration of the school year, your scholar will:

    1) read and respond widely and deeply to foster a deeper understanding of the human experience

    2) use a variety of thinking strategies to understand, analyze, and create text for personal enrichment, inquiry, and problem solving

    3) collect, analyze, and cite specific evidence to formulate questions, construct arguments, make decisions, and reinforce thinking

    4) obtain, analyze, and synthesize information from a variety of resources to express information, change perspectives, clarify thinking, and make informed decisions

Please understand that your scholar will be expected to complete all independent study assignments. Your scholar should read any article, for a minimum of 20 minutes every night.
