    40 Book Challenge

    Dear families:
This year our scholars will start a personal reading challenge called “40 Books Challenge.” The goal of the Challenge is to get our scholars to leave their reading comfort zone and explore new reading genres. I know this will lead to students becoming lifelong readers and learners.  It will also contribute to growth in vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, which will in turn prove beneficial during EOG time. I know that 40 books sounds like a lot, but students will only have to average one book a week. This can be accomplished by reading during our D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) time at school and spending at least 30 minutes reading at home daily. Some books, like shorter non-fiction books, can be read possibly in a day or two. Some books will obviously take longer to finish. I am confident that all students will be able to achieve the goal of reading 40 books in class and at home this year. Parents, I need your help...please make sure your child is reading each evening since this is part of their homework. I'm so excited about how much we will accomplish this year working together as a team!
    Thank you,
    Ms. Lee
