HCS Takes Over Chowan University

In an exciting and forward-thinking initiative, Halifax County Schools offered high school students an invaluable opportunity to explore their future possibilities through a special university tour. On Wednesday, November 6th, over 500 high school students from Halifax County Schools visited Chowan University for a day of discovery, exploration, and inspiration, designed to help them chart their own paths to success.

The tour gave students a comprehensive look at college life, allowing them to explore various academic programs and engage with university faculty.

“We believe every student has the potential to shape their own future, and this tour is a powerful way to open their eyes to the vast opportunities that await them,” said Superintendent, Dr. Eric Cunningham. “Every student has unique dreams, and this opportunity is designed to spark the curiosity and motivation needed to turn those dreams into reality”

The President of the University, Dr. Rosemary Thomas, stated, “It is just such an honor to have Halifax County Schools come visit us today because for some of these students, it could be the first time they've been on any college campus. And we want them to know that their future is certainly bright. And with the fabulous education they're getting with Halifax County Schools, they are gonna be prepared for a very successful opportunity here at Chowan University.”

This trip is just one part of Halifax County Schools’ ongoing commitment to fostering college and career readiness, and to providing students with the experiences and resources they need to take the next step toward their dreams. The event is not just a tour—it’s a chance for students to envision what’s possible for their future.
