"Charting a New Course" To Student Achievement

    Dear Halifax County Schools Community,

Welcome back to an extraordinary school year in the lighthouse district! The future of Halifax County Schools continues to shine bright. This is my fourth year as your superintendent, and I’m pleased to serve as your academic leader. To our new families that are joining us at this time, welcome to team Halifax –where we all “Strive for 5”!

I’m anticipating an academic year that’s filled with promise and progress!  As a matter of fact, with much reflection, I am proclaiming the 2019-2020 school year as “IMPACT 2020”!  While our district’s “waves of challenge” are higher than most, it’s undeniable that education is still the vital link to the advancement of our school community.  I’m constantly reevaluating our delivery of services to meet the evolving needs of Halifax County Schools’ students. As a school community, it is imperative that each of our graduating classes grow stronger in character, courage and skills to pursue a life of wellbeing, liberty and happiness.  Thereby, my decisions are based on the district’s historical data to inform brighter pathways of teaching & learning; and deter random acts.

In moving forward, my district focus for empowering and educating all students in a supportive and positive learning environment, is now driven by a multi-tiered system of support --which is known as HCS-MTSS.  This systemic total school improvement framework provides: scaffold support to focus our educators’ impact in the learning environments; implementation of relevant curriculum and instruction, and meaningful progress monitoring. During my three-year term as superintendent, I have introduced and implemented data-driven school improvements throughout the Halifax County Schools District. With each change initiative, I watched for incremental positive growth, and celebrated the small victories. I’m very proud of how far we’ve come together and the collective gains we’ve made. However, we have not reached our ultimate goal of being the most improved school district in the state of North Carolina. Therefore, I’m soliciting the commitment of our school community to contribute to the success of this goal. I strongly believe, the strength of Halifax County Schools is the “collective impact” of its school community working together to support and promote the well-being of all students. Let’s focus our effort this year to “hit our mark”.  Twitter your pledge for Student Success at HCS

In closing, what intentional contribution will you pledge to positively impact student achievement in the 2019-2020 school year? --Halifax Rise: Conceive, Believe & Achieve!

    Best Regards,
