WHAT IS TRIO - EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH?

The Saint Augustine’s University TRIO - Educational Talent Search program is a federally funded program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education that works in conjunction with your local school guidance office and focuses on students in grades six through twelve. The ultimate goal of the program is to help young people better understand their educational opportunities and options. The program encourages participants to complete high school and continue their education at the college level. In addition, participants receive information about college admission, scholarships, SAT/ACT testing, career planning, and life skills activities.

 All services rendered by the program are FREE.  Applications are selected without regard to race, creed, religion, national origin, gender, or physical disability.

POPULATION SERVED

  • Students in grades 6th –12th
  • Students who meet low-income and first-generation criteria
  • Students whose parents have not received a four-year college degree
  • Students in need of career guidance and career counseling
  • High school & college drop-outs
  • Students with learning disabilities
  • Students with physical disabilities
  • Students who have academic potential

Services and activities provided are designed to take place at the target schools and within the community.  The Advisors will work with students individually or in groups to assist them in succeeding in high school and enrolling into the college of their choice.  Advisors will meet with students on a regular basis who fit the program criteria and assist them with services designed to provide guidance and a consistent foundation in pursuing a college education.  Advisors will provide various services including career planning, decision making, and study and testing skills to help with the student’s educational success.  In addition, students will receive exposure to college life, STEM activities, and life skills that could help prepare them after graduating college.
